Al put on a huge spread again which was really nice and fueled me for most of the day. He got up early to get things going and made sure I woke up. After breakfast I was on the road pretty quickly and took the 17B instead of the Trans Canada highway. It went through a reserve and there was almost no traffic.
I really didn’t have much need to stop because of the large breakfast but eventually I pulled into Bruce Mines for breakfast which sits on Lake Huron. There were three bicycles parked outside so I investigated. There was a French couple from Quebec who were also riding to St. Johns and another man heading West who I didn’t speak with. The couple were very friendly and had also suffered through North Western Ontario. The man Mario almost ran over a skunk along the way but was lucky to avoid it. We had a good laugh over that!
After lunch I rode to a nearby pier to see lake Huron. Simply beautiful colours so much you would think you were in the tropics!
As I rode on the heat was and has been effecting me but I guess I was looking to blame it on other things. My motivation was sinking around 100 kilometers into the ride and the wind was starting to pick up. I eventually pulled into Blind River and stop at the main street of town. There is a hotel there where the river drains into the lake. I asked for the price which was after a slight hesitation $65. I showed my charity card and they gave me another $5 off.
My room was on the back side of the motel which faced the river which was occupied by Canadian geese. Instead of a shower I walked to the lake past the geese who hissed as I came within attack range of their children. The lake had a sandy beach and a long shallow shore line that was only 2 feet deep. Rather than walk all the way I simply soaked in the warm water as a cool breeze blew over me. I came back had a shower and went for dinner in the only restaurant in town which had pretty good food. After I came back and spent a few hours writing posts as I am so behind!
