145 kilometers, time is not accurate.
I was feeling pretty ambitious after yesterdays ride but I was quickly put in me place by the wind. Though not strong it was enough too keep me around 20km/hr in the beginning. I really didn’t have breakfast so I pulled in Elkhorn for the classic bacon and eggs with hash browns. The owner is saving up money and plans to sell the place and move to Cuba. Not a bad retirement plan if you ask me.
Back out on the road even though well feed and somewhat rested I just couldn’t get it going with the wind bearing on me. I did suck it up a little when I saw this memorial. I pulled away some of the weeds and put a flower in the cup.
It was a lot of work to break 100 kilometers but even harder to break the last 40. My last stop before Brandon was Alexander where I ate a chocolate bar, a grape pop ,and an ice cream sandwich. I spoke with the owner as well about previous travel and Ironman and she wished me luck.
Coming into Brandon you can turn down highway 1a for a more direct route but there is no should. I rode for a while on the road before toughing it out on the gravel shoulder. I am now at the Casablanca hotel which is reasonably priced, clean and they are giving me a free breakfast tomorrow as a donation. Pretty humbled today. Hopefully we have a little more mustard for tomorrow.
